What is Hyperloop technology?

Is Hyperloop Technology starting in India : The Technology Mark

Hyperloop Technology is the upcoming 5th mode of transport, which will be faster than an airplane speed. It is called a hyperloop because it travels in the pipe (loop).

What is the advantage of Hyperloop in response to other modes of transport?

In other modes of transport, transportation has a huge problem because of Friction and Air Drag. For example:
If a car moves on the road they have to face both problems Friction on the tire by road surface and air drag.
In an airplane, it has to face air drag.
This problem causes lots of fuel consumption and time to time service requirements.

And to overcome this obstacle Hyperloop Technology is introduced.  In Hyperloop technology both these obstacles are removed.

How Hyperloop works?

We know that if two magnets of the same pole are kept aside they repel each other. And the same concept is introduced in Hyperloop.
The friction of road and tire used to stop vehicles was overcome here by replacing roads with magnetic platform and pods(coach/bus) tires with the same magnetic pole as of platform.  This makes the pod float in the air. And it becomes so easy to move that if 20 people are sitting inside the pod and if a little force is applied on the pod it starts moving.

Now there was still one obstacle and that was air drag. For that the concept applied was that after the pod enters the loop. The air present inside the loop would be sucked out through the vacuum pump attached. And though the air drag problem was also overcome.

How does Hyperloop move and stop?

The pod has a linear motor that makes it move forward and since there is no friction it moves at a high speed.
A vacuum pump that sucks air from the loop leaves some of the air. It only sucks 85 to 90% of air.  Then for the leftover air, there is a fan attached In front and back of the pod that sucks front air and throws it back of the pod. This makes the pod move faster.
And there are the only fans that stop the pod by reversing the process and by the air drag the pod stops.

How much power does it require?

It requires a very little amount of power because neither there is friction nor air drag that would stop the pod. The motor consumes a very little amount of power.

In the future of Hyperloop technology, there would be solar panels attached to the loops. This will help Hyperloop to work normally in daylight and the charged battery will be used to work at night.

Who gave the concept of the Hyperloop?

This concept was first introduced 200 years back in Britain. But lack of technology at that time was not successful.

But at present, this concept was advanced by Elon Musk, the owner of the well-known company Tesla and SpaceX.
Elon Musk advanced his idea in front of the world in the year 2013 and explained in full detail how we can use the latest technology for Hyperloop.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Hyperloop technology?

First talking about Advantages :

  • There will be no disturbance because of weather/climate.  As it will be moving inside a closed loop.
  • Animal death can be reduced that dies because of other means of transportation.
  • It will be fully eco-friendly as it uses very little power and there would be no pollution because of it.
  • Maintenance would be the least as there would be no friction. Friction causes lots of maintenance in other vehicles like changing grease, tire, and other engine parts.
  • Since maintenance is very less, therefore, the travel charges would be less and affordable for all.
  • Talking about speed then it can even reach 1200 km per hour.

Since if everything haves an advantage then are some disadvantages too. So,

Disadvantages of Hyperloop :

  • Setting up this large project would cause a lot of investment.
  • Since the speed of the pod is very high it should have to be straight and so every making bridge for it will make a large number of trees to cut down.  But this issue can be solved by replacing the cut-down trees by planting trees near them.
  • The person who doesn't travel much can feel some ear pain, or they might feel vomiting. This will be because of low pressure outside the pod.  The feeling would be the same as traveling on an airplane.
  • The main disadvantage is the break. Since the pod speed is so high that it can reduce hourly trips into minutes. So reducing speed in an emergency would not be possible. And the risk can also be high.
  • At present, there would be only one pod moving at a time in a particular loop. The pod which moved first will reach the destination then the second pod will start. But there can be a new invention in the future. It can also take the shape of a metro.
  •  Another big issue is the Earthquake. If the pod would not be made strong then a small magnitude earthquake can even destroy it.  Also taking the lives of people inside it.

When will this project start in India?

The project was made to make a Hyperloop connecting Mumbai and Pune. The contract was given to Virgin Hyperloop. At that time there was the government of Devendra Fadnavis which has passed this project. But when the government changed, the Uddhav Thackeray government came then this project was paused. The government said that this project is taking lots of investment and they will first see the trial of Hyperloop in other places.

And so the project of Hyperloop still pauses in India and it may start after some years.

Here is a small video fully explained by Virgin Hyperloop. Watch this to get more:

FAQ

1. What is Hyperloop Technology?

A technology in which a new mode of transport will start. This technology has a pod and track system which is basically a tunnel. And the interesting thing about this technology is the pod moves on a magnetic track and can get up speed more than a jet plane.

2. When will Hyperloop come to India?

As per new records, Hyperloop will start in India after 2025.

3. Which company has done Hyperloop's first human trial and where?

The first human trial was conducted by Virgin Hyperloop in Las Vegas in the year 2020.

4. How Hyperloop stops?

Hyperloop pods have fans on both front and back. This fan rotates in opposite direction to stop the pod with the help of air drag.

5. Does Hyperloop Pods have a brake?

No, there is no brake in Hyperloop. It stops by fans...
